I found the Sedona Airport Vortex trail when I planned to do another hike, but the parking lot was full, so I searched online and found the vortex trail.
Best time to hike to the Sedona airport vortex is at sunset or sunrise. A lot more people arrive at sunset though, so get there for sunrise if you want to avoid the crowds.
I found the energy, the vibe of the place, is both relaxing and energizing at the same time. When you feel at peace all your worries melt away. Sedona Arizona is a place to reclaim your calm and enjoy the outdoors.
Here’s everything you need to know about visiting the Sedona Airport Vortex. Pair it with a visit to the Sedona Peace Park for a complete Sedona experience.
Airport Vortex Sedona
Sedona Airport Vortex Parking
There is one small lot at Airport Mesa trailhead on Airport Road, it has free parking but only fits about 10 vehicles.
Drive further up Airport Road and parking is $3 at a large lot.
Across the street from the parking lot there is Sedona Airport Scenic Lookout. This overlook is super popular at sunset. There are viewing binoculars for 25 cents.
There’s a sign reminding people not to walk on the road to get to the vortex and airport loop trail as there is no sidewalk. Instead follow the signs for Sedona View Trail.
It’s just over a half mile walk to the Sedona Airport Vortex from the scenic lookout.
Sedona Airport Vortex Map
I’ve created a Google map to mark the parking lots, Sedona airport overlook, and the Sedona Airport Vortex. You can use this map to plan your route to the vortex and decide where to park.
What is a Vortex?
Some people believe vortexes are areas with an energy that helps enhance meditation and the creative mind, as well as healing properties.
This earth energy that is thought to exist around the Sedona vortexes is what attracts so many people from around the world.
You may feel the Sedona vortex energy when you visit the specific sites. But don’t worry if you do not feel a dynamic shift in your meditation practice at the time you visit the vortexes.
What I notice is that whenever I spend time in nature and focus on the moment I am experiencing, then I feel a greater sense of awareness and peace of mind.
Set your intention before you visit the vortex to enjoy the experience with an open mind and embrace the moment. May you enjoy peace and tranquility when you visit the Sedona energy vortex locations.
Around the earth vortex sites exist in many places, such as Machu Picchu historic site in Peru or Uluru (previously called Ayers Rock) in Australia.
Sedona Airport Vortex via Sedona View Info
Distance: 1.5 miles (2.3 km) round trip
Elevation gain: 240 ft (74 m)
Type of hike: Out and back
Difficulty: Easy
Time: Allow 1 to 2 hours
Dogs allowed on trail: Yes, but always keep dogs on leash
I notice that AllTrails hiking app lists the Sedona View Trail (although they call it Airport View Trail) as moderate rather than easy, I’m not sure why.
There is little elevation gain and it’s not a long hike. Although there is a steep climb up to the summit it’s a short distance and there are hand railings.
If you have mobility difficulty you can still enjoy the views without going to the top. And if you want to sit and relax there are some seating areas made of red stones near the information panels at the Airport vortex viewing site.
Airport Vortex via Airport View Trail Description
Sedona Airport View Trail is a short easy hike and suitable for all ages.
The trail is mostly flat and offers some amazing views of Sedona and the surrounding red rocks. You’ll see prickly pear cactus and juniper trees along the trail.
When you get to the gated fence be sure to close the gate behind you, this helps keep deer off the Sedona airport runway.
As you continue the trail and you’ll enjoy wonderful views of Sedona surrounded by red rocks, absolutely gorgeous! When you get to the Airport Vortex spend some time to enjoy the energy.
From the top of the airport vortex, you have excellent panoramic views of red rock formations. And it’s a good place to take panoramic photos.
After you vibe out at the vortex you can continue hiking to the Airport Loop Trail if you like. It’s a 3 mile (5 km) loop and is considered moderate difficulty.
Watch for the Airport Loop trail sign near the Airport Vortex, it intersects with the Sedona View Trail.
Be sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, wide brimmed hat, sunscreen, and good walking shoes.
I can’t wait to get back to Sedona to hike the trails again!
