Balkans
The Balkans is a region located in Southeastern Europe, but which countries are included in the Balkans? I couldn’t find a definitive answer.
For the purposes of this travel blog I’m including the following countries in the Balkans category: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia.
In 2026 I began traveling around the Balkans region, visiting Tirana, Albania; Belgrade, Serbia; the cities of Sarajevo, Mostar, Livno, Pale, and Ilidža in Bosnia and Herzegovina; and in Croatia I visited Ploče, Trpanj, and Split.. Blog posts coming soon!
In addition to my travel experiences, you will also find posts by Gabi Ancarola, who lives in Crete, Greece, and wrote for us regularly in prior years. Gabi has traveled extensively around Europe, particularly in the Balkans, and has written several articles covering Croatia as well as Sofia, Bulgaria.
