An excellent day trip from Moab for scenic drives and amazing hikes is Canyonlands National Park. The park itself is split into three distinct areas and the section closest to Moab is the Island in the Sky region of the park.
Take a scenic drive and then hike to the beautiful Grand View Point Overlook for spectacular panoramic views of the red rocks in the Colorado Plateau. On the way back stop at Mesa Arch and Shafer Canyon Viewpoint.

Time: Allow 1 hour
Dogs allowed on trail: No dogs allowed on trails or overlooks at Canyonlands
While you can bring your dog to Canyonlands National Park you cannot bring them to overlooks, trails, backcountry, rivers, or any backcountry roads (even if they stay in the vehicle) and pets must be on leash whenever they are out of your vehicle.

Even if you don’t feel up to doing the full hike to the overlook you can still enjoy the views close to the trailhead.

Grand View Point Overlook Trail Description
From the beginning of the trail at the overlook you will experience vistas of the mesa with gorgeous red rock formations in this high desert terrain.
Because the hiking trail is mostly level and only 1 mile to the end viewpoint, you will find the Grand View Point is a good kid friendly trail at Canyonlands.
The views are amazing from start to finish.
Parts of the trail features natural stone stairs carved into the trail.

Watch for the rock cairns marking the trail. And if you find yourself accidentally meandering off the official trail, stop and look around for people walking the trail and look for the trail markers.
Once you arrive at the end of the trail the views are incredible in every direction.
