Northeast

The Northeast US is home to some of the most spectacular coastal views, scenic drives, and lush wilderness to explore, as well as major cities including New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.

Usually I recommend visiting the northeastern US in the fall when the foliage turns brilliant colors of red, yellow, and orange. Peak foliage season is from late September through October, depending on location, of course. I spent a month in Belfast, Maine, from mid-September to mid-October when the fall colors reached their peak.

I explored parts of the Northeastern United States during my 7-year road trip years (2015 to 2022) and spent most of my time in New England (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont). While driving around the Northeast, I tried to avoid the bigger cities due to traffic congestion and parking hassle. Instead, I suggest visiting NYC and other major cities by bus, train, or a direct flight.
