Solo Travel Plans for 2014

I am reviewing my solo travel plans for 2014. Having lived in Calgary for 30 years or so you would think I would have made a road trip out to Jasper at least once, but no I didn’t do that. It was so close that I could go there anytime. That’s the way it goes when I don’t feel the crush of a deadline looming I just procrastinate away.

Thinking about how many places I’ve been planning to see in and around Texas for the past 15 years I have decided that this is the year that I will actually go explore more of the Lone Star State and maybe visit a few of our neighbors too.

My current  solo travel plans include road trips to explore more of Texas

January – I will visit Fort Worth for the first time. Really! After 15 years living in Austin I am going to Fort Worth instead of just thinking about going to Fort Worth. I already booked a place to stay via Airbnb and I have a ticket for the Picasso & Matisse exhibit at the Kimbell Art Museum.

February – Port Aransas is another place I have wanted to visit but never got around to it. I’ll spend a long weekend exploring the Gulf Coast area and hopefully spot a few of the whooping cranes that migrate down from Canada for the winter months.

March – Fredericksburg is a town I’ve visited several times but it’s been awhile and March is a great time to see all the wildflowers in bloom. I climbed nearby Enchanted Rock for the first time in 2013 and I think I should make it an annual event.

April – Barcelona, Spain – I will have 10 days to explore and eat my way through Barcelona.

May – HoustonArt Car Parade and I’ll check out the visiting Magna Carta on loan to the Houston Museum of Natural Science

June – Round Top, TX – Texas Festival Orchestra

July – Wimberley, TX – Jacob’s Well Natural Area

August – Georgetown, TX – Inner Space Caverns for some momentary relief from the Texas sizzle of summer and off to La Belle Province to visit Montreal – with a side trip to Ottawa

September – Dripping Springs, TX – I plan to chill at the Hamilton Pool

October – Balmorhea & Marfa, TX – I’ll go swimming with the turtles in Balmorhea State Park and see some pretty Marfa Lights

November and December – undecided at the moment. I would like to get back to Louisiana or visit Arkansas for the first time. For international travel I’m thinking about Portugal or maybe Chile, or Croatia, or Peru, or…

What are you travel plans for 2014? Have you planned any solo trips?
